DIN & European IEC Standards Training

Why DIN Standards Training?

Since electrical standards adopted by various countries may vary, markings and symbols to describe the electrical controls products can also differ. This can make recognizing and understanding the European style symbols quite challenging for the North American designer who is not familiar with them. The purpose of this one-day course is to help you decipher the German Industry Norm (DIN) and European (IEC) standards used by your industry partners in Germany and other European countries. The course will cover the DIN/IEC standards and symbols by comparing them to the Joint Interface Committee (JIC) and NFPA standards. Participants will be presented with real-world electrical schematic practice scenarios to determine how to use the DIN/IEC standards.

Who Should Attend

All controls engineers, designers and electricians who read, modify and create IEC drawings, and maintain equipment that comes with IEC style electrical schematics.  The course is also recommended for department supervisors and managers who oversee these functions.

What to Expect:

Participants will be presented with real-world electrical schematic practice scenarios to determine how to use the DIN standards including:

    • Symbols & Wiring
      • Comparing DIN/IEC symbols to JIC/NFPA symbols
      • Differences between DIN and IEC in regards symbols and wiring
      • Wiring standards
      • Gauge specifications
      • Terminal specifications
      • Wiring naming between standards
    • Device Naming Convention
      • Higher Level Assignment (HLA)
